Sponsored Products Guide

Out-of-budget features

Out-of-budget features are available across all Sponsored Products campaigns, using daily and/or total budgets. Out-of-budget features help identify and troubleshoot two key budget-related issues:

1. Your campaign has used up all its daily and/or total budget and is now out-of-budget.

  • Your ads are not serving, and we recommend you take action and add budget so your campaigns can resume serving and potential customers can see your ads.

2. Your campaign is operating at a suboptimal budget, which has caused it to use up its daily budget at least once in the past seven days and is now budget-at-risk.

  • Your ads are currently serving but are at risk of running out-of-budget. Customers will no longer see your ads once you run out-of-budget. We recommend that you increase your budget to ensure your ads serve all day. You can also view Avg. Cap-out-Time to understand the average time when you're running out of campaign budget.

Out-of-budget features include alerts, recommendations and key metrics and insights, available throughout the Walmart Connect Ad Center.

Benefits of out-of-budget and budget-at-risk features

The out-of-budget and budget-at-risk features enable you to:

  • Identify missed opportunities and help prevent potential missed sales from campaigns running out-of-budget unintentionally. You can view estimated missed impressions and estimated missed clicks to help make an informed decision and then use the data-driven recommendations of daily and total budget to quickly adjust.

  • Make informed decisions regarding ad spend with personalized and actionable recommendations for adjusting budgets and avoiding losing potential customers.

How to use out-of-budget feautures

Out-of-budget features are available throughout the Walmart Connect Ad Center for Sponsored Search. You can view out-of-budget features on the Sponsored Search Dashboard, the All Campaigns page, and on the Campaign edit page. You can also sign up for out-of-budget email alerts on the All Campaigns page and view key related metrics throughout the Walmart Connect Ad Center.

Dashboard widgets

When you have campaigns that have run out of daily and/or total budget, an alert widget will appear on the Dashboard with information including budget recommendations.

There is one widget for campaigns using total budget, and another widget for campaigns using daily budget. A campaign will appear in both widgets if the daily and total budget have been spent.

You can quickly get your campaigns running again by applying the recommended budgets across all out-of-budget campaigns using the Apply all button.

If you would like to review the details of the out-of-budget campaigns and their budget recommendations, click View recommendations and a pop-up will appear. You can take several actions:

  • Apply all budget recommendations in bulk using the Apply all button

  • Apply budget recommendations individually for each campaign using the Apply button

  • Update budgets manually for each campaign in the Current total budget column

After you have applied the budget recommendations or increased your budget, your campaigns will resume serving in near-real time.

If you do not see a total and/or daily out-of-budget alert widget on the Dashboard, that means you do not have any campaigns that are out-of-budget.

All Campaigns page

To learn more about how to use the out-of-budget features on the All Campaigns page, view the All Campaigns article.

Campaign edit page

When you open the  Campaign edit page for a campaign that has run out-of-budget or is at risk of running out-of-budget, you will see an alert tag at the top of the page.

To view your budget and make changes, click View budget at the top of the page.

Apply the suggested daily and/or total budgets provided in the Scheduling & Budget section by clicking Apply.

After you have applied the budget recommendations or increased your budget, you will no longer see the out-of-budget or budget-at-risk alert tag, or the budget recommendations on your campaign, and your campaigns will resume serving in near-real time.

Email alerts

You can sign up to receive email alerts when your campaigns run out-of-budget or are labeled as budget-at-risk.

Key metrics and insights

You can view all the following data points as part of out-of-budget features:

  • Campaign Status: The current state of the campaign’s budget, including Out-of-budget and Budget-at-risk.
  • Sugg. Daily Budget: Suggested daily budget is a recommended daily amount to spend on the campaign to minimize the possibility of running out -of -budget, and missing out on impressions and clicks. The recommendation is based on factors that may include campaign performance, time of day, performance of similar campaigns and historical impressions granted.
  • Sugg. Total Budget: Suggested total budget is a recommended total amount to spend on the campaign to minimize the possibility of running out -of -budget, and missing out on impressions and clicks. The recommendation is based on factors that may include campaign performance, time of day, performance of similar campaigns and historical impressions granted.
  • Est. Missed Impressions: Estimated missed impressions is the estimated range of impressions a campaign might have received if it had not run out -of -budget. This estimate is based on factors such as current campaign performance, time of day, performance of similar campaigns and historical impressions generated. This is an estimate, not a guarantee of actual impressions. Some campaigns may not have enough data to provide this estimate.
  • Est. Missed Clicks: Estimated missed clicks is the estimated range of clicks a campaign might have received if it had not run out-of-budget. This estimate is based on factors such as current campaign performance, time of day, performance of similar campaigns and historical impressions generated. This is an estimate, not a guarantee of actual clicks. Some campaigns may not have enough data to provide this estimate.
  • Avg. Cap-out Time: Average cap-out time is the average time of day when the campaign ran out-of-budget within the chosen time window. For example, if you choose a 30-day window, the average cap-out time will be the average of all the times this campaign ran out-of-budget in the last 30 days.

Out-of-budget scenarios

I do not see the recommended budget for my out-of-budget/budget-at-risk campaign with the daily remaining budget = zero after 24 hours.

This is because your campaign may have a rollover budget that is still being spent. The recommendations will be provided once the rollover budget is also exhausted.
